Important advice: Lithotherapy is a complementary and alternative therapy and CAN’T REPLACE A MEDICAL/VETERINARY OPINION AND INDICATED TREATMENT! The information relayed on this site results from numerous studies and books dedicated to lithotherapy and not from validated scientific evidence. Moreover, some minerals can be toxic or dangerous if touched or ingested and must be handled with care.

A little more about Lithotherapy:

What is Lithotherapy and how can it help you and your pet?

Lithotherapy is the practice of using crystals and stones as a method of healing therapy. It is considered a form of functional medicine and is more commonly referred to as crystal healing. The term lithotherapy comes from the Greek words “lithos” which means “stones” and “therapeia” which means “cure”. There are hundreds of minerals and crystals that can be used in a single lithotherapy session. Popular stones used in lithotherapy include quartz, malachite, amethyst, citrine, lapis lazuli, obsidian, rose quartz, turquoise, tourmaline, and tiger’s eye.

From ancient times to the present day, lithotherapy has used the energies of stones according to their composition, shape and color. Stones and crystals are also linked to seven chakras and to specific parts of the body according to their vibratory frequencies. According to these beliefs, minerals allow a better circulation of energy and help to find balance and harmony.

Evidences about the therapeutic use of stones:

Evidence of the use of stones to heal can be traced as far back as China, Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome.

The philosophy of modern crystal healing is based on traditional concepts from Asian cultures, most notably the Chinese concept of life-energy (chi or qi) and the Hindu or Buddhist concept of chakras, which are vortices of this life-energy, said to connect the physical and supernatural elements of the body. According to these philosophies, crystals interact with the energy field of the body, promoting physical, emotional and spiritual healing.

There are strong scientific evidences that lithotherapy was very popular in medieval Europe. These treatises – called at the time – Lapideries, can be found in medical manuscripts. During the Middle Ages, minerals and gemstones played a significant role in medicine and were frequently used and prescribed by physicians. It is believed that each stone was thought to possess different curative properties and could aid in everything from pregnancy and childbirth to indigestion and animal bites.

In 1644, the emperor Rudolph II’s doctor, Anselme Boèce de boot, published a 750 pages book called “The perfect Jeweler or history of stones”. He talks about the healing properties of stones among other topics. In 1748, “The Drugs Encyclopedia of Mr Lemery” which was written by Louis the XIV doctor, shares also about the virtues of stones. Mister Guibourt, who was a Professeur in the Ecole Superieure de Pharmacie in Paris (1869), published “History of simple drugs” in 3 volumes, which 1st volume is dedicated to minerals.

In 1902, Herman Fühner presented his doctoral dissertation “Lithotherapy, Historische, Studien über die medizinische Verwendung der Edelsteine”, being the pioneer to abord the theme under a scientific view. On this document, Fühner shows that stones were used by medical man as an important part of therapeutics.

The Institute Hagalis (www.hagalis.de), an international research laboratory for water quality, made a test with a range of crystal water bottles that infuse water with the power of crystal. The institute studied the differences between tap water from Ueberlingen at Lake Constance, Germany and a sample of the same water after being treated with bottle with a crytal. They found an improvement in water quality, neutralisation of harmful substances, improvement of the pH-value and oxygen content, increase in bioavailability of minerals, and an increase in energy balance.

And a little about me:

I am a lawyer who decided to change my life and dedicate my time to my real love: animals. So after a curvy way, I became a dog breeder and a dog trainer and behaviorist. I grew up in Brazil, where gems can be easily found and their use is very popular, so since my young age, I was used to use crystal healing for things like a head ache, troubles to sleep, anxiety…

Some time ago, I restarted to study the use of stones to support counter-conditioning protocols and I realized that crystals could be used on both sides of the leash: on the dog, to help to deal with some emotions to change a behavior, per example, and on the owner, to help him to deal with his own emotions that can influence the dog’s behavior. The same principle can be used for any animals that have close contact to humans like cats and horses (I have a little amethyst geode in my aquarium!). So my main goal is to help pets and their humans to achieve a pleasing relation, using crystal healing.
